Jean-Baptiste-Joseph Fourier (Auxerre, Francia, 1768 - París, 1830) Ingeniero y matemático francés; era hijo de un sastre, y fue educado por los benedictinos. Dado que los puestos en el cuerpo científico del ejército estaban reservados para familias de estatus reconocido, aceptó una cátedra militar de matemáticas.
